Charity Performance to Aid Blizzard-Hit Inner Mongolia

China's State Ethnic Affairs Commission and China Charity Federation (CCF) jointly organized a charity performance in Beijing Tuesday evening to help raise money for snow disaster victims in north China's Inner Mongolia.

Organizers received a total of 10,000 yuan (US$1,204.8) from the performance. In the meantime, people from all walks of life both at home and overseas have taken emergency actions in the rescue work.

Up to now, China Red Cross Society has contributed a total of 1. 5 million yuan (US$180,000) and received donations of 1.36 million yuan (US$163,800) from International Red Cross Organization, Red Cross Society of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Beijing Red Cross Society and Red Cross Society of the United States.

Beijing Red Cross Society, Beijing Donation Center and its donation stations throughout the city have altogether received 110,000 yuan in cash and more than 33,000 pieces of clothes and cotton-filled quilts from local residents.

The latest statistics show that 30 people have been confirmed dead and 200,000 heads of livestock have been lost.

At present, the temperature in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region remains very low. In Dong Ujimqin Banner, the temperature is below minus 40 degrees centigrade, with the lowest temperature standing at minus 50 degrees centigrade.

Yan Mingfu, chairman of CCF again called for emergency aid domestically and overseas to help the disaster-hit people in Inner Mongolia.
