The city government of Guilin, a tourist resort in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has tightened up security after Wednesday night's suicide explosion which killed the perpetrator and left 18 people injured.
One of the injured is still in a critical condition. The others who received minor injuries only have been discharged from hospitals after treatment.
The explosion took place in Guilin's Central Square at 21:35 p.m. Police said Thursday they have difficulties in identifying the person who set off the explosion and died has as he carried no proof of identification.
Investigations are still underway.
The local authorities have ordered all-out efforts from transportation, tourism and public security departments to ensure safety at all scenic spots.
One of China's top ten tourist destinations, the picturesque city with a river running through it is expecting tens of thousands of tourists to arrive every day during the week-long holiday beginning from the National Day on Oct. 1.
Luo Shijie, who lives near the site of the explosion, said though locals were all talking about the incident, they were still leading their normal lives, "going to work, shopping, and taking outings as usual."
