Chinese, French Heads Talk over Phone on Iraq Issue
Chinese President Jiang Zemin and French President Jacques Chirac Sunday exchanged views on Iraq issue and sent regards to each other for the coming Chinese Spring Festival in a telephone conversation.

Chirac informed Jiang of France's views over current Iraq issue and ideas about the upcoming work of the United Nations Security Council.

Jiang said China has always held the view that Iraq must fully implement relevant Security Council resolutions. And the Iraq issue should be resolved through political and diplomatic means within the framework of the United Nations.

As permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and France should jointly safeguard the credit and authority of the United Nations, said Jiang.

The two leaders agreed that the two countries should enhance consultations over Iraq issue and other important international issues.
