7.6 Billion Builds Beijing Ten Cultural Buildings
By 2006, Beijing will have invested 7.6 billion yuan (US$918 million) for 10 new cultural buildings, six of which will be built on Chang’an Street, adding further cultural atmosphere to the area.

The 10 cultural buildings include the Beijing International News and Culture Center, Capital Museum, Beijing Television Center, Beijing Broadcasting Center, Beijing Arts Gallery, Beijing Book Building (the second part), China Movie Museum, Beijing Multimedia Information Center (the second part), Beijing Digital Publishing Information Center and Zhengyang Building.

Currently, land arrangements and designs for Beijing Arts Gallery, Beijing Book Building (the second part) have begun. Beijing Arts Gallery, located at southwest side of Liubukou, near Beijing Music Hall, will occupy an area of 30,000 square meters, while Beijing Book Building (the second part) will have an area of 48,000 square meters.

The other four buildings have been built without problems. The backbone of China’s National Theater has been completed; Beijing International News and Culture Center in East Chang’an St. has made its debut; Capital Museum at West Chang’an St. will take shape by the end of 2003 and Beijing Television Center is still under construction.
