China to Dominate Table Tennis in Athens: German Expert

Chinese paddlers will make a clean sweep in Olympics table tennis tournament in Athens as they did in Sydney four years ago, a German table tennis specialist said in Athens on Tuesday.

"China will pocket in all the four golds," said Karl Schopp, husband of former Chinese international Shi Jie. "It's too easy for them."

The grey-haired German raised thumb to the Chinese players, saying that they are brilliant and play smart, and contributed their achievement to the training method and the coaching quality.

"They are well prepared through the closed-door training," said Schopp, who is working as an adviser for the news service in the Galatsi Olympic center where the Olympic pingpong events are to be held from August 14 to 23.

It is reported in Chinese media that the European players trained in one camp, which, as Chinese media reported, may cause threat to the Chinese team. However, Schopp said that the once integrated European training camp had disassembled into three.

"In Europe, to train players from different countries in one camp may cause problems since they could meet in competitions," said Schopp. There had been a united European camp before the Sydney Games.

"We have everything about Chinese table tennis," added Schopp with a smile while logging on to a German table tennis website.
