Former Senior Diplomat Donates to School

Chinese former Vice Premier Qian Qichen donated the total reward of his works, about 700,000 yuan (US$84,672), Saturday to establish scholarship in China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), so as to help the excellent students in poverty.

Qian's book "Ten Stories of a Diplomat" not only sums up experience of important events and diplomatic work in the past 10-odd years, but also gives guidance to the present diplomatic work.

On the second meeting of the CFAU Board of Trustees held Saturday, Qian, also the Board's honorary chairman, said CFAU should continue to orient its teaching to the practical needs of the outside world, the future and the society.

Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing addressed the meeting. Some 20 directors of the Board, including government officials and successful entrepreneurs attended the meeting.

Founded in September 1955, CFAU is a higher education institute which operates under the guidance of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, aiming at cultivating high quality diplomatic talents with mastery of fluent foreign language, international business and law.

The CFAU Board of Trustees was founded in May 1995, with an aim to raising fund from the society and injecting vigor into the university operation.
