China Festival to Be Held in Nepal

A seven-day China Festival will be held in Kathmandu to mark the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of Nepal-China diplomatic relations, an organizer said Friday in Kathmandu.

"The festival will be kicked off on June 1, which will be jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the World Cultural Net, a non-government organization," Deepak Sarkar, president of World Cultural Net, told reporters at a press conference.

Programs of the festival include performance of arts, film festival, food festival, exhibition of handicrafts, books, kites, photos and relics as well as trade fair with household goods, electronic goods, automobiles and information technology, Sarkar added.

"Chinese artists, businessmen and journalists will also attend the festival," he noted, adding that more than 100,000 people are expected to watch the programs.

The festival will help enhance the cultural and people-to-people relations existing between Nepal and China, he added.

A similar festival was successfully organized in 2003. Nepal and China, from the government as well as non-government level, are organizing various programs such as China Trade Fair, seminars, exchange of delegations and free health camps to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of their diplomatic relations, which were forged on Aug. 1, 1955.
