Donald Tsang Specifies Work Priorities
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Chief Executive (CE) designate Donald Tsang said on Saturday that during his future two-year term of office as the Chief Executive, he will focus on improving governance, building harmonious society and promoting economic development.

He made the remarks while attending a question and answer meeting attended by about 500 Hong Kong citizens at Sha Tian Town Hall. The meeting was jointly held by four Hong Kong radio and television stations.

Tsang said he will continue to meet personnel from various walks of life in the next few months, to solicit their views for drafting his policy address to be delivered in October, when the Legislative Council resumes meetings.

When asked who is his supporters, he replied "Hong Kong citizens are my supporters." His reply won warm applause from the audience.

Answering questions on improving livelihood of Hong Kong citizens, he said the government will help launch more projects as well as education and training courses, in a bid to create more job opportunities for Hong Kong citizens.

He said the government will also support the fostering of creative industries and high value added industries, to restructure Hong Kong's economy.

Tsang also answered questions raised by citizens on education, employment, medical service, property market and other issues.

Returning Officer for the Chief Executive Election Carley Chu announced on Friday that Donald Tsang was the only valid candidate in the Chief Executive Election of the HKSAR and has thus automatically become the Chief Executive designate, in accordance with Section 17 of the Chief Executive Election Ordinance.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has reported the return of the CE by-election to the State Councilon Friday.

According Article 45 of the Basic Law, the Chief Executive of HKSAR shall be selected by election or through consultations held locally and be appointed by the Central People's Government.
