A coal mine blast killed four miners and injured two others early on Sunday in east China's Zhejiang Province, according to local police.

The gas explosion occurred at around 2:40 AM in a Zhafei coal mine owned by Changguang Colliery Company and buried six miners who were working underground.

So far, four bodies have been found and the two injured have been sent to hospital for medical treatment.

Local government officials rushed to the spot to direct the rescue work and the colliery was closed for rectification.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion are underway.
