China Sweeps Board at Badminton Open

Chinese players won four of five gold medals at the end of the weeklong All England Open Badminton Championship in Birmingham, UK.

The finals, which finished Sunday evening local time, were dominated by Chinese shuttlers.

In an all-Chinese men's singles final, the No. 4 seed Chen Hong edged out the defending champion Lin Dan after a suspense-filled duel.

Lin, 21, showed his fitness as he clinched the opener with 15-8, but the dauntless Chen didn't give up. The 2002 champion later picked up his form, coming back to grab the final victory in 71 minutes.

In the men's doubles, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng reached the final at the expense of a South Korean pair. They put up a perfect performance, holding off Danish former world champions Jonas Rasmussen and Lars Paaske 15-10, 15-6 in straight sets. It's their first win over them in two years.

Xie Xingfang, Lin's girlfriend, defeated Olympic champion Zhang Ning 11-3, 11-9 in the women's singles final.

Huang Sui and Gao Ling beat Wei Yili and Zhao Tingting to win the women's doubles title.

Olympic mixed doubles silver medallists Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms of the UK trounced the unseeded Danish duo Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl in the final to get the title.
