Beijing Party Chief Meets Nobel Laureates

Thirteen world-leading economists, including eight Nobel laureates, have gathered in Beijing to attend the Nobel Laureates Beijing Forum, starting today to exchange views on the global economy.

Yesterday, Liu Qi, Beijing municipality’s Communist Party of China chief, met with them to discuss economic and social developments in the capital since reforms and opening-up since 1978.

He called on all participating economists to pay more attention to the Chinese economy and the development of Beijing.

Professor Robert W. Fogel from the University of Chicago said China's economy has been developing at an amazing speed over the past 30 years, and has been unparalleled in the world.

The three-day forum is also being attended by Robert A. Mundell, James Mirrlees, Clive Granger, John F. Nash and Robert Barro.
