First Asian, European Young Political Leaders Conference Ends

A four-day conference for Asia and Europe's young political leaders, the first in the history of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), concluded in Tianjin on Thursday with the adoption of a joint statement featuring agreements on youth issues on the two continents.

The conference, jointly hosted by the All China Youth Federation and Asia Europe Foundation, focused on implementing the proposals made by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the Fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 5) in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 7 to 9 October 2004.

More than 100 young delegates from 34 countries and regional youth organizations attended the conference, which started in Beijing on Monday and then moved to the neighboring port city of Tianjin.
