Shenyang Declaration Issued at Northeast Asia Economic Forum

The Shenyang Declaration was issued at the conclusion of the 14th Northeast Asia Economic Forum on Wednesday in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

The two-day forum focused on topics including the blueprint for the future of the northeast Asia, energy markets in the region, the revitalization of northeast China, and regional cooperation.

Under the declaration, forum participants agree to conduct joint activities to implement a Grand Design for Northeast Asia, which will be recognized as a guideline for the promotion of the sustainable development of the region.

In the field of energy, Northeast Asian neighbors are encouraged to cooperate for the purpose of diversifying the region's supply sources for oil and natural gas thereby enhancing regional energy security, according to the declaration.

The forum is part of the ongoing 2005 Northeast Asia Hi-Tech Fair that opened on Tuesday.

The five-day fair has attracted officials and experts from northeast Asian countries including Russia, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan and Mongolia.

The Northeast Asia Economic Forum (NEAEF) is a regional, non-governmental organization that sponsors and facilitates research, networking, and dialogue relevant to the economic and social development of the region. The forum is also committed to promoting understanding and relations among the peoples of Northeast Asia and North America. Forum membership is extended to interested individuals and institutions, through participation in the forum's annual international conferences.
