Rare Blood Type Documented in South China

A special data bank has been established in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, recording information on people whose blood type is Rh negative.

The bank, under the administration of the Hainan Provincial Blood Center, will cater to the emergency needs of population withthe rare blood type of Rh negative.

Statistics show that only 150 people have been identified as Rhnegative out of the 100,000 volunteer blood donators in the province since 1992.

Sources said that the Rh negative population can only receive transfusion of the same type of blood, in order to avoid hemolysis.

Expert say people should find out their blood type as soon as possible. Women with Rh negative blood should avoid induced abortion and go through a hemolysis test so as to ensure safe pregnancy.
