Clinical Trial: Study on Integrated Western and Chinese Medicine of Anti-SARS Serial Formula No.1, 2, 3 To Treat Mild and Serious Degree Confirmed Patients

 Aims: To evaluate the serial formula NO. 1,2,3 (Chinese herbal) efficacy on anti-SARS using more objective criteria than prior study in a parallel-group, randomized trial.

Materials and Methods: 63 cases of confirmed SARS patients suffered in 5 days by China CDC criteria were divided into two groups randomly, which treated by Methylprednisolone with Chinese serial formula NO. 1,2,3 as test one (31 cases), the other by Methylprednisolone only as controlled (32 cases) for 21 days.

Results: 1.The formula NO.1 may shorten the time of fever. 2. The serial formula NO. 1,2,3 may improve the poisoning symptoms and signs significantly, also promote the pneumonic absorption in chest X-ray. 3. The serial formulas may speed up the Methylprednisolone dose reducing. 4. Without any side-effect founded.

Conclusions: The present clinical trial suggested that Chinese herbal medicine can be used on SARS effectively and safely.
