Insurance Premium Continues to Rise

China's insurance industry has raked in 270.9 billion yuan (about US$32.76 billion) in premiums in the first six months of the year, up 14.2 percent year-on-year, says a report from the Insurance Regulatory Commission.

The total assets of the country's insurance companies reached 1.36 trillion yuan (about US$164.45 billion), up 15 percent since the end of last year.

The premium of property insurance presently totals 67.8 billion yuan (some US$8.2 billion), up 15.6 percent year-on-year while life insurance witnessed a 13.4 percent growth in premium to reach 180.2 billion yuan (about US$21.79 billion).

A premium of 22.9 billion yuan (US$2.77 billion) has been generated by health insurance and accident insurance.
