China's Four High-tech Centers to Take Off
An official with the Ministry of Science and Technology said in Xi'an on Monday that four major high-tech development centers will shape up in the next decade in China.

Li Liao, division chief of the ministry's high-tech center management, made the statement at the ongoing cross-straits seminar on the development of high-tech zones.

According to the official, the four centers will be based at the Zhonguancun Scientific and Technological Zone in Beijing in north China, the Shanghai High-Tech Zone in east China, the Shenzhen High and New Technological Zone in south China and the Yangling High- Tech Zone in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province in northwest China.

With the high-tech zones as the core, technological development will radiate to their vast surrounding areas, which cover a large proportion of the country's land.

The centers will respectively feature biological engineering, information industry, high-tech exchanges and cooperation, investment raising, international cooperation, and agricultural technology, the official said.
