Guangdong Reports Growth in Foreign Trade
South China's Guangdong Province reported a foreign trade volume of US$ 176.49 billion in 2001, up 3.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 34.62 percent of the national total.

Official statistics show that exports rose 3.8 percent to US$ 95.42billion , while imports rose 3.7 percent to US$81.07 billion.

Machinery and electrical products accounted for 58 percent of the province's total exports in 2001. New and hi-tech products accounted for 23.4 percent.

A total of US$ 76.51 billion worth of exports in processing trade was reported, accounting for more than 80 percent of provincial exports and for more than half of China's exports in processing trade in 2001.

Large export enterprises, each with exports worth over US$ 100 million, reported a combined US$ 43.56 billion of exports last year.

China's foreign trade volume reached US$ 509.77 billion in 2001, an increase of 7.5 percent year-on-year. Of this foreign trade volume, exports rose 6.8 percent to US$ 266.16 billion and imports rose 8.2 percent to US$ 243.61 billion.
