The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has mapped out a plan to plant more trees and flowers to develop the popular tourist destination into a green metropolis.
Ho Wing-him, deputy director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), said Saturday that the department has "formulated a planting strategy this year to achieve the goal of turning Hong Kong into a green metropolis."
The strategy includes planting more flowers and native trees, adopting thematic street tree planting, and creating thematic flower and tree gardens, said Ho at the press conference on "Towards a Green Metropolis."
LCSD will organize greening activities, such as the coming 2002Hong Kong Flower Show to be held next Friday, to enhance the public's green knowledge and participation, according to Ho.
