Beijing Retrieves 140 Million Yuan of Unpaid Tax
The local taxation department in Beijing retrieved 140 million yuan (US$16.9 million) in unpaid taxes on the basis of public tip-offs in the first half of this year.

A total of 688 tax evasion cases were reported in the first six months, of which 580 cases have so far been settled. Tax evaders paid 116 million yuan (US$14 million) of tax evaded and 24 million yuan (US$2.9 million) in penalties.

The taxation department commended 20 public informers with rewards totaling 136,000 yuan (US$16,444).

Beijing opened a telephone hotline on the number 12366 on August 1 to receive tax evasion reports from the public.
