China Suspends Cattle Imports
China has suspended all live cattle imports from Australia after an Australian exporter tried to ship diseased animals overseas secretly, quarantine officials said yesterday.

Veterinarians discovered 41 cattle with ringworm among 1,950 earmarked for shipment to China last month, an Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service spokesman told The Associated Press.

Authorities in China, which bans the import of animals with the disease, were immediately informed, and an investigation was launched, the spokesman said. Chinese officials responded by suspending all live cattle exports from Australia.
