China Telecom has made strong growth since the old company was restructured on May 16 this year, with its business worth 96.9 billion yuan (about US$11.7 billion) during the first nine months of this year.

According to figures released by China Telecom, by the end of last month the company had 17.19 million more phone subscribers than last year and a total of 128 million. This makes China Telecom the biggest fixed-phone telecommunications operator worldwide in terms of the number of phone users.

By the end of last month, dial-in Internet users and broad-band subscribers had risen by 3.31 million and 1.15 million from last year, reaching 23.98 million and 1.84 million respectively.

Meanwhile, the telecommunications capacity of China Telecom has also increased steadily. Since restructuring, the company has set up a huge fiber-optic network covering the whole country.

By the end of last month, its network had grown by 30,692 km compared with last year, with a total length of 899,483 km. The company has 130,000 outlets for its high-speed data communication network and 4.193 million outlets for its IP network.
