A number of top international executives attending a brainstorming session in Shanghai have been a great moral booster as the city enters the final month of work to support its bid for the World Exposition in 2010, according to the city's Mayor Chen Liangyu.
"Our preparations are now in full swing and we have the determination and confidence to host a successful expo if China wins the bid," he said.
The coming five to 10 years is a crucial period for Shanghai in increasing its comprehensive competitiveness and building itself into a truly world-class city.
The suggestion and ideas of these top executives are very thought-provoking and relevant to Shanghai's development.
Chen was speaking at the close of the 14th International Business Leaders' Advisory Council (IBLAC) here yesterday in which 35 top executives from around the world participated.
IBLAC was started in 1989 when Premier Zhu Rongji was the mayor of Shanghai to solicit constructive ideas from around the world for the city.
Focusing on how to build Shanghai into a world-class city and win more support from the world for China's World Expo bid, the council members contributed their thoughts on matters ranging from the development of the service sector to urban planning and administration, utilization of human resources and improvement of life quality.
