Job Creation Vital for Nation's Future
President Hu Jintao said the tasks of increasing employment and helping laid-off workers find jobs were vital to the people's interests, the success of reforms and the nation's stability.

Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark on Saturday while presiding over the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee's third lecture for its members. He urged CPC committees at all levels and local government to pay more attention to the twin tasks.

Zeng Xiangquan, a professor at the Renmin University of China, and Cai Fang, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, conducted the lecture.

During the discussion, Hu said China should persist in its long-term strategy and policy of promoting employment. The recently held 16th CPC National Congress stressed the need to create job opportunities through all possible means.

"We should include this task in the overall plan for economic and social development," Hu said at the weekend.
