Bilateral Trade Development Promotes Aviation Demand

The rapid trade development between Brazil and China had promoted bilateral aviation demand, said Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim.

He made these remarks when attending the opening ceremony of Varig Brazilian Airlines Beijing Representative Office.

He said there had been frequent exchanges and vast cooperation between the two nations in different areas. If Varig can open the first direct flight from South America to China, it will not only benefit government officials and business people, but also serve tourists as well. The opening of the new route will enhance mutualunderstanding of the two peoples, and promote bilateral economic prosperity.

Through cooperation with Air China, Varig hoped to open direct flights between the two nations by the end of this year, said Alberto Fajerman, executive vice president of Varig.

Founded in 1927, Varig is the biggest airline in Latin America. It is also a member of the Star Alliance, the world's biggest aviation alliance.
