Obesity Weighs Down Beijingers

A recent survey has revealed that twenty percent of Beijing residents aged from 15 to 54 are suffering from obesity.

The survey, conducted by Beijing Mainland Marketing Research Corporation, shows that among overweight people, five percent are excessively obese.

The number of women is slightly larger than men, and about 70 percent of them are aged above 35.

The survey, which was released to coincide with the Sixth Weight-Losing Conference, in Beijing on February 28th, found most overweight people are working class with medium or low incomes.

Experts point out that the causes of obesity are lack of exercise and excessive intake fat and warn people against trying short-term weight loss measures.

They suggest that overweight people should consult their doctor before taking any action.
