NPC Vice Chairwoman Calls for Effective Measures to Curb Juvenile Delinquency

Gu Xiulian, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, said in Beijing Friday that efforts must be made to create a favorable environment for the young to achieve practical results in preventing juvenile delinquency.

Addressing this year's second plenary session of the leading group for preventing juvenile delinquency under the commission for comprehensive management of public security of the central committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Gu said that Chinese leaders have made important achievements concerning juvenile delinquency, which is an issue closely linked with the future of the country and the nation as well.

To stop the upward tendency of juvenile delinquency, special efforts must be made to solve "the outstanding problems" facing such people as the children of prison inmates people, homeless children, dropouts and idle children, she said.

"We must intensify the legal education of minors and purify their growth environment," she added.
