Typhoon Talim to Hit Taiwan, Fujian

Typhoon Talim, number 13 of this year, will affect Taiwan and other coastal areas of southeast Chinese provinces since Wednesday, said Fujian Provincial Observatory Tuesday.

According to the urgent typhoon alarm by the observatory, as of 2:00 AM Tuesday, the center of Talim was located on the sea about 1,020 km southeast to Taipei, or 21.2 north latitude and 130.6 east longitude.

The typhoon center is moving northwestward at the speed of 20 kilometers per hour and it will bring strong rainstorms to the provinces of Fujian and Taiwan, as well as other regions along China's southeast coastal area, said the observatory.

Tailm was generated Saturday on the Pacific Ocean east to the Philippines.

Some meteorologists say that Talim may bring destruction as serious as that caused by Typhoon Haitang, a weather disaster ravaging east China's Fujian and Zhejiang provinces last July.
