China Int'l Silk Fair to Be Held in Hangzhou

The China International Silk Fair 2005 will be held from October 20-23 in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, announced the Ministry of Commerce and Hangzhou municipal government on Wednesday.

The fair, sponsored by Chinese Ministry of Commerce and Hangzhou municipal government, will be attended by delegates from a number of foreign countries, according to the organization committee.

It will be an important place for show and trade negotiation of silk products, and nearly 20000 kinds of products are to be shown, the committee said.

China is the world's largest silk producer. In recent years, China's silk export volume and its added value have increased. However, China lacks products with high technology and strong competitiveness.

The fair, the largest of its kind in the world, will enhance exchanges and trade in the silk industry, said Huang Hai, minister assistant of the Ministry of Commerce.
