Spare Airstrip for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Put in Use

A spare airplane runway specially designed for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has been put in use in Shijiazhuang, capital of north China's Hebei province ,about 250 km south of Beijing.

With four airplane shunt, the spare runway is 3,400 miters long and 23 meters wide. And considering the need of all kinds of aerobuses, the distance between the runway and the taxiway is prolonged from 185 meters to 190 meters.

The construction of the runway started from the end of last year, and the whole project cost more than 48 million yuan (5.8 million US dollors).

Zhang Guanghui, an official of airport department of General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, said on Saturday that the Shijiazhuang airfield could be satisfied with all kinds of aircrafts to take off or to land during the 2008 Olympic Games.
