Farmer Income Expected to Increase by 5%

Chinese farmers income is expected to increase by 5 percent this year, even with the negative effects of the bird flu outbreak.

Vice Minister of Agriculture Yin Chengjie made the statement Friday in Beijing at a conference on agriculture and the rural economy.

He says the farmers' income structure has improved due to tax relief and farmers getting more jobs in the cities.
