HK Steps up Public Alertness on Bird Flu

Hong Kong government Sunday steps up avian flu prevention campaign by updating its website on avian flu and distributing leaflets about bird diseases.

The avian flu website has been updated with a Really Simple Syndication application to allow subscribers to receive automatically the latest news updates on avian flu via their personal computers, smart phones or personal digital devices.

The website provides comprehensive up-to-date information on avian flu including government news on preventive measures, health advice and global statistics.

Clear guidelines on practical measures are also available to help the public avoid contracting influenza and avian flu.

Besides, the government distributed two newly published leaflets on avian flu prevention at nine locations in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories.

This is the second leaflet distribution within a fortnight to heighten public alertness to avian flu.

A government spokesman said Sunday that a week from now, copies of new leaflets will be available for public collection at a number of supermarkets and service counters of bus.

The Hong Kong government decided to keep bird flu out of Hong Kong through its preventative efforts. There is no evidence of bird flu in Hong Kong so far.
