Harbin Outlines Olympic Scheme
The capital city of Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province yesterday outlined how Harbin plans to stage the 2010 Winter Olympics it is bidding to host.

The city's bid committee made public its plans for sports and telecommunications infrastructure, transportation and accommodation facilities, environmental conditions and finance.

The city yesterday also said that six famous athletes would act as its representatives to promote Harbin. They are the world skating champions Luo Zhihuan, Shen Xue, Wang Xiuli, Xue Ruirong, Yang Yang (A) and Zhao Hongbo. The city, an industrial center known for its bone-chilling winters and annual Ice Lantern Festival, is one of eight cities to have applied to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2010 Games.

The other seven cities are Andorra la Vella in Andorra, Bern in Switzerland, Jaca in Spain, Pyeongchang in South Korea, Salzburg in Austria, Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Vancouver in Canada.

The IOC will vote for the host city of the Winter Games on July 2 next year.
