Six Killed in North China Fireworks Plant Blast
Six people were killed and another was reported missing after a blast at a fireworks plant in north China's Shanxi province on Friday morning, local government sources said Saturday.

Eight people were injured, one of them seriously, in the explosion, which occurred at around 10:10 am Friday at the Taigu Fireworks Plant in Taigu County, said sources.

Six of the plant's seven workshops were demolished by the blast and most windows of the factory buildings were shattered, witnesses said.

The cause of the blast is still under investigation.

The plant's legal representative Wang Shuping has not been seen since the accident, local officials said.

They also said the plant used to belong to the town government but was sold to a private owner in May 1999.

The county government has already frozen the plant's bank accounts and also ordered two other local firecracker plants to halt production immediately.
