The 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday morning.
Jiang Zemin delivered a report at the congress on behalf of the 15th CPC Central Committee.
Li Peng presided over the meeting attended by 2,134 delegates.
