Shanghai 'Digitalizes' Drug Stores
Shanghai is adding computers, video telephones and other digital facilities in drug stores to help improve services and the level of drug sales, Shanghai Morning News reported today.

These facilities have already been installed in two drug stores in Changning District. Officials with the Shanghai Drug Supervision Bureau said all of the 80or so drug stores in the district will be 'digitalized' by next March, and later, all pharmacies around the city.

Computer management will help ensure drug quality, officials said. Stores will have an electronic database of available registered drugs and will be able to detect fake products easily.

The computers will set of an alarm when a group of drugs reach their expiry date.

Customers search easily for requested drugs on computer. Their drug requirements will be sent via computer to drug suppliers.

The video telephones are mainly for an effective exchange between drug buyers and hospitals. When the buyers have problems with a given kind of drug, they can use the phones to seek advice and suggest from doctors and experts.
