Shanghai Installs Terminals for Bus Riders
Shanghai's transportation planning authority in the near future will install more self-service intelligent machines near bus stops.

The terminals allow passengers to check the best bus routes for their destinations and how long they have to wait.

Two machines are currently being tried near the terminal of No. 981 bus in Pudong, and on downtown's Shimenyi Road, said the Shanghai Transportation Information Center in charge of the project Thursday.

Passengers are able to find out how to get to their destination by touching the screen, officials said.

The machines can also tell bus riders where the buses they're waiting for are and how long they will have to wait for their buses -- if the buses have global positioning systems.

About 200 of the city's estimated 18,000 buses have been equipped with GPS.

According to the center, the city originally planned to install 500 machines by year's end.

However, the center still must test the first two machines for months to find any possible technical flaws.
