First Generator Undergoes Trial Run at the Three Gorges
The first hydroelectricity generator at the Three Gorges has begun a trial operation, after the reservoir water storage and trial lock navigation were successfully completed.

The 700-thousand-kilowatt generator went into operation on Tuesday and the electricity produced will help power the Central China network.

When in full operation, the Three Gorges hydropower plant with its 26 generators will be the largest of its kind in the world, generating an annual output of 847 trillion kilowatts of electricity.

Four of the 26 generators will be in operation by the end of this year.
