New Guangzhou Railway Station in Panyu

Guangzhou will build a new railway station at Panyu to deal with increasing traffic in and out of the city.

The Ministry of Railway and Guangdong authorities had reached an agreement to build the new railway station at Shibi, Panyu District, the Yangcheng Evening News reported Monday.

The location was chosen from four candidates after the cost, space and other factors were considered. The other three candidates were Shiqiao, Dashi, and Haizhu.

The new railway station will become a modern comprehensive transport center for the Pearl River Delta. It will link railways, inter-city expressways, highways, and subway lines. Once the station is built, passengers will be able to take vehicles to other cities of the Pearl River Delta.

The stops of line 3 and line 7 of the Guangzhou Metro will be adjusted to accommodate the new railway.

Guangzhou will become one of the four big passenger transport centers along with Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan by 2020, according to a program revealed by the Ministry of Railway.

Guangzhou now has two railway stations, the Guangzhou Railway Station and the Eastern Guangzhou Railway Station.
