Quarreling Lovers Plunge from 6-story Building

One man died and his girlfriend was injured on Valentine's Day after they fell from the top of a 6-story building in Tianhe District, Guangzhou following a lover's quarrel.

The girl, aged 19 and surnamed Luo, hit a passing motorcyclist who was also rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Her boyfriend, who jumped from the building following her fall, died on enroute to hospital.

According to witnesses, the man, whose age and identity were not released, pushed Luo off the building before jumping himself.

Luo was seen calling on her boyfriend at the building on Chepi Road East early Saturday, the New Express reported. A neighbor on the sixth floor said he heard their quarrel around 8 a.m. An hour later, they were heard dragging each other to the top of the building.

The motorcyclist was injured after his vehicle was hit by the falling girl. The motorcycle broke into pieces.

It was a "miracle" that the girl survived, a doctor with the Tianhe District Red Cross Hospital said. She was out of danger and being treated for bone fractures and a swollen forehead.

The motorcyclist was also hospitalized.

Police are investigating.
