Fake Milk Powder 'Kingpin' Caught

The main suspect in the Fuyang substandard milk powder scandal, Xue Shituan, has been arrested in Chongqing Municipality and returned to Zhejiang Province, Xinhua News Agency reported on its Web site.

Xue was suspected of having produced more than 2,000 tons of substandard milk powder in Henan Province without obtaining a food sanitation certificate.

Substandard milk powder was responsible for the deaths of 12 infants in Fuyang City in the eastern province of Anhui.

Xue was arrested in one of his three apartments in Chongqing.

It was reported that he had registered a milk company in Shanghai in September 2003.

Dozens of officials have been removed from posts following the exposure of the scandal.
