Chinese Scientists to Probe Human Brain

Some 40 experts on neurology, information, chemistry and mathematics gathered in Beijing lately to attend a conference under the theme of "Human Brain Project and Neural Information". At the meeting they made discussions on current situations of brain studies at home and abroad, for the first time proposed China's human brain project and set up a seven-people liaison group.

As reported, neural information networks would be firstly set up in 11 research institutions in 6 cities across China to enable neurology and information experts to exchange views online as part of preparatory work to join in the world human brain project.

Up to now human beings have only probed about 10 percent of brain functions and as early as the 1980s the US, EU and Japan had outlined their long-term brain studies project. By the end of 1990s a world brain project had been formed with the US taking the lead for cooperation and resource sharing in this field. This year has seen a batch of famous magazines, such as Nature and Science also publish articles on brain studies, calling it a project even bigger than Human Genome Project.

American scientists have found that many psychological diseases as maniac and depressive reactions can be traced into abnormal functions of certain parts of the brain, which would be eased through proper stimulation of the corresponding parts. Now scientists are able to decide whether a person is suitable for a certain type of job via examination and evaluation of his brain.
