Chinese President Meets Argentine Friends

Visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with Argentine friends this afternoon in Buenos Aires, saying that they have long made contributions to the development of Sino- Argentine relations.

Jiang said that during his first state visit, he would exchanges views with the Argentine leaders on the development of bilateral ties in the new century.

He expressed his hope that Argentine friends would continue to promote friendship between the two countries.

Marla Arsenia Tula, president of the Argentine Chamber of Trade, Industry and Production, said that over the past 20 years, China has entered into a period of rapid development and prosperity, adding that they have admired the great achievements China has scored.

She expressed her belief that President Jiang's visit to Argentina would further promote the relations between the two countries.

Jiang arrived here Saturday for a state visit, the second leg of his six-nation Latin American tour.
