Germany Maintains One-China Stand

German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Joschka Fischer said Friday that the German government maintains the one-China stand.

While having breakfast with Chinese Foreign Minster Tang Jiaxuan, Fischer said the German government's one-China stand has been consistent and clear, and Germany is a reliable partner with China.

Tang praised the Sino-German cooperative relations that have developed well in various sectors in recent years, and appreciated the fact that the German government has always followed the one- China policy.

"This will further enhance the trust between the two countries and promote comprehensive cooperation based on mutual benefit," Tang said.

Fischer, who is here to attend the Third ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, said Germany will spare no effort to develop a bilateral relationship.

The two sides also exchanged views on major international issues of common interest.
