Chief of General Staff Meets Cuban Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, met Wednesday with his Cuban counterpart Alvaro Lopez Miera and his party.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that the Chinese government and people have attached importance to relations with their Cuban counterparts.

He noted that Sino-Cuban relations have developed well in recent years, referring to the successful exchange of visits between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and President of the Cuban Council of State Fidel Castro Ruz.

This has injected impetus to the bilateral relations, he added.

Fu recalled his visit to Cuba last year, and said that Sino- Cuban military relations have maintained a good development momentum and that he hopes it will continue to develop in a stable and healthy way.

Lopez expressed appreciation for the achievement China has made in economic development, saying that Cuba would like to learn from the experiences of the Chinese armed forces and further the cooperation with China.
