China, Zambia to Expand Cooperation in Radio, TV Services

Zambian Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Vernon Mwanga and visiting Chinese officials agreed Tuesday in Lusaka that the two sides should work to expand cooperation in radio and television services.

Mwanga, who is also spokesman of the Zambian government, spoke highly of the traditional China-Zambia friendship and fruitful cooperation in various fields. He particularly commended the seven FM radio transmitters that China has helped build in Zambia's main cities.

With the completion of the construction of the transmitters in late June, 80 percent of the 11 million Zambians now can have access to FM broadcasting services, Mwanga said.

On the strength of this successful cooperation, Mwanga said, the two sides can surely further expand their cooperation in radio and television services.

Leading a group of visiting Chinese officials and experts, Wu Dashen, deputy general manager of China International TV Corporation, said as developing countries, China and Zambia should help each other and learn from each other in broadcasting and TV services as well as other fields.

The visiting group, arriving here last Thursday, have toured the broadcasting and TV facilities of Zambia and conducted discussions with their Zambian counterparts on issues of expanding cooperation in these areas.
