NY Mayor Reaffirms Number of Missing at WTC

The number of people missing in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC) here dropped to 5,960 on Thursday, city officials said.

The figure is 387 less than the previous report of 6,347, based on the latest statistics by the police, according to city mayor Rudolph Giuliani who once attributed the number fluctuation to duplications.

As of Thursday, confirmed dead rose to 305 from 300, and the bodies identified went up to 238 from 232, he told reporters, updating the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the landmark building.

On September 11, two hijacked passenger planes hit and toppled the twin 110-story towers of the trade center, in a suicidal action involving a similar attack on Pentagon in Washington and a crash in rural Pennsylvania.

All 266 aboard the four planes were killed, plus 189 missing in Pentagon.
