Afghan Elders Demand End to U.S. Bombing

A major conference attended by about 1,000 exiled Afghan leaders on Thursday adopted an eight-point resolution, demanding formally an end to the U.S.- led bombing of the Afghan Taliban.

The two-day conference began here on Wednesday also called for a ceasefire in the long-running civil war in Afghanistan.

"We demand the warring parties of Afghanistan, the USA and its allies end their operations as early as possible," reads one of eight resolutions.

The two-day conference was convened by the Assembly for Peace and National Unity of Afghanistan, headed by Syed Ahmed Gillani.
