Northern Alliance, UN Agree to Hold Talks in Bonn

The Northern Alliance and the United Nations have agreed to hold a meeting of Afghan factions in Bonn, Germany to discuss the formation of a post-Taliban government, the alliance's Interior Minister Yunos Qanoni said Monday.

Qanoni announced the meeting following a meeting with UN envoy Francesc Vendrell in Kabul.

The United Nations has called for a gathering of all Afghan factions in order to pave the ground for the setting a post-Taliban government which the UN says must be a broad-based and represent all Afghan ethnic groups.

Qanoni gave no date for the gathering, saying only that it will be held in the near future.
