US Missile Defense Test Expected the Weekend

The Pentagon expects to test its national missile defense system as early as this weekend with an attempted interception over the Pacific, a US defense official said Wednesday.

"It could come as early as this weekend," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, adding that an official announcement of the test was expected Thursday.

The test will involves an attempted interception of a dummy warhead over the Pacific by a US interceptor missile fired from Kwajalein Island in the Marshall Islands, the official said.
